General
Enrollment – The official number of students attending school. According to the Ministry of Education’s 2003 enrollment statistics, there are approximately 1,900,000 students in Honduras.
Grade Level – Grade Levels as defined by the Honduras Ministry of Education.
Shifts – The number of times a school serving grades Pre-K through 12 completely changes the student population in a day. (There may be a morning shift, an afternoon shift and an evening shift for a total of three shifts. For the purpose of the Master Plan, evening classes for adult education programs would not be considered a shift.).
Electricity – Any form of electrical energy available at the educational center to support school lighting and power school equipment. (This may include Public electrical service, solar power, hydro-electric power, etc. available for the school.)
Conditions
EAI – Educational Adequacy Index – An index from 0.0 to 1.0 that reflects the ability of a school to serve the projected student population, including current enrollment and anticipated increases in student enrollment due to growth and student retention. Schools with a higher EAI are schools that have the greatest need for improvement.
FCI – Facility Condition Index – An index from 0.0 to 1.0 that reflects the relative condition of each school within a region of study in comparison with other schools within the same region. Schools with a higher FCI are schools that have the greatest need for improvement.
Costs
New – The Cost to build new construction. (In general, cost values expressed in Lempira/m2 are based on the “Net Area” of new construction.

Infrastructure
Site – The term site is defined as the land related to a school. Some schools have more than one site and some schools share the same site. Most sites have some sort of school infrastructure on them, however, some sites are used only as playfields. The Facility Master Plans contains information on 13,018 unique location sites. Buildings – An independent structure with walls and a roof. A single school may include several buildings. The Facility Master Plan collected information on 20,204 buildings. This information included age [year constructed], dimensions, number of stories, and the condition of the building systems.
General Conditions
Playground – An open area available to the school for physical activities.
Electricity - Any form of electrical energy available at the site to support school lighting and power school equipment. (This may include Public electrical service, solar power, hydro-electric power, etc. available for the school.). Site electricity includes the infrastructure needed to bring electricity to and including a Main Distribution Panel in the school. The infrastructure after the main Distribution Panel is included in each building’s electrical wiring.
Potable Water - Any form of water available at the site to support student consumption and plumbing fixtures. (This may include Public water service, a private well, a nearby river, etc. available for the school.)
Sewer – Any acceptable form of wastewater disposal. This includes public sanitary sewers, and private septic systems. Private cesspools, (holes in the ground used to dump wastewater in) while commonly used at schools in Honduras, may pollute th
